Moi Gift: Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions families ask most about the Moi Gift app.
What is Moi Gift?
Moi Gift is an Android app that replaces the paper moi notebook. You record who gave how much (money, gold, silver or a gift) at a wedding, house warming, ear piercing or any family function, and get totals and reports instantly.
Do I need internet to use it?
No. Recording entries, reports and the lock all work offline. Internet is needed only for optional Google Drive backup, and for voice input on some phones.
Does it support Tamil?
Yes. The whole app is available in Tamil and English, and you can switch any time. You can type or speak names in Tamil or English, and PDF reports print Tamil correctly.
How does voice entry work?
Every field has a mic. Long-press a mic to switch that field between Tamil and English. The Voice button asks City, Name, Job and Amount one by one, then you say "save" or "சேமி". If microphone permission or internet is missing, you get a message and typing still works.
Where is my data stored? Is it safe?
On your own phone. The app has no server, no account and no analytics, so we never receive your entries. You can add a 4 to 6 digit PIN and fingerprint unlock, and the app locks again after 2 minutes in the background.
What can I record besides money?
Each function has Money, Gold / Silver and Articles. For gold and silver you enter the weight in grams (saying "ஒரு பவுன்" enters 8 g). All three share one numbering, like your notebook.
Can I fix a wrong entry?
Yes. Undo straight after saving, tap an entry to edit it, or swipe it to delete it. Deleting asks for confirmation or offers undo.
What reports are available?
Summary with amount bands, city-wise totals with drill-down, large and small amounts, custom ranges, search, and a Jewels & articles report. Every report exports to PDF, Excel or CSV and can be printed.
How do I back up my data?
Open the backup screen. You can back up to your own Google Drive (the app sees only the files it creates, with optional automatic daily backup) or to a local file in any folder, SD card, WhatsApp or email. Backups can be protected with a password using AES-256 encryption.
I lost or changed my phone. How do I get my entries back?
Install Moi Gift on the new phone and restore from your Google Drive or backup file. Without a backup, entries cannot be recovered because they exist only on the old phone, so please back up regularly.
I forgot my PIN. What can I do?
Use "Forgot PIN?" on the lock screen and sign in with the Google account connected earlier. If no Google account was connected, the PIN cannot be reset; clearing the app data removes all moi on that phone, and you can restore from a backup afterwards.
What is the give and take ledger?
It records the moi you gave at other people's functions and matches them by name and city, so you can see what you received from and gave to each person.
