BLDC Remote FAQ
Answers to common questions about the BLDC Remote app.
What is BLDC Remote?
BLDC Remote is a free Android app by Oodhwe that uses your phone's infrared (IR) blaster to control BLDC ceiling fans, in place of the fan's physical remote.
Does my phone need special hardware?
Yes. Your phone must have an IR blaster (consumer infrared transmitter). It is common on some Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco, Huawei and Samsung models and absent from most other phones. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi fans are not supported.
Which fan brands are supported?
Atomberg, Activa, Bajaj, Super, Kuhl and Orient. Brand names belong to their respective owners, and the app is not affiliated with or endorsed by any fan manufacturer.
How does automatic detection work?
The app sends each brand's power code one after another while you point the phone at the fan. When the fan reacts, tap "Fan responded" and the app saves that brand. If detection does not work, choose the brand manually.
The fan does not respond. What should I do?
Point the top edge of the phone (where the IR blaster is) directly at the fan's receiver from within a few metres, and remove any case or cover over the blaster. Try another brand if yours is not detected, and make sure the fan is powered. If it still fails, your fan may use a code the app does not yet include; email support@oodhwe.in with the fan brand and model.
Why does the app show the wrong speed or on/off state?
Infrared is one-way: the fan cannot report its state back. The state shown is the last command the app sent, so it can differ if someone used the original remote or the wall switch.
How do I add a home-screen widget?
Long-press an empty area of your home screen, open Widgets, choose BLDC Remote, place the widget and pick a fan.
The widget does not work when the app is closed. How do I fix it?
Some phones stop widgets from working when the app is not running. Allow the app to run in the background. Xiaomi / Redmi / Poco: Settings > Apps > Manage apps > BLDC Remote > Battery saver > No restrictions, and/or Security app > Permissions > Autostart > turn on BLDC Remote (if it still does not respond, do both). Oppo / Realme / OnePlus: Settings > Apps > BLDC Remote > Battery usage > Allow background activity, and enable Auto-launch. Vivo / iQOO: Settings > Battery > Background power consumption > BLDC Remote > High, and enable Autostart in i Manager. Huawei / Honor: Settings > Apps > App launch > BLDC Remote > Manage manually, and allow Auto-launch and Run in background. Samsung: Settings > Apps > BLDC Remote > Battery > Unrestricted, and remove the app from Sleeping apps. Other phones: Settings > Apps > BLDC Remote > Battery > Unrestricted. Menu names vary slightly between software versions.
Does the app collect my data or need the internet?
No. The app does not request internet access and has no accounts, analytics or ads. Your saved fans and settings stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy for details.
What permissions does the app use?
Only "Transmit IR" (to send fan commands) and "Vibrate" (for the optional tap feedback).
Is the app free?
Yes, it is free with no ads or in-app purchases.
How do I contact support?
